DIY Guide For Taking Out The Old Bath
Posted on July 25, 2010 by David
1. Think about how you’re going to get the old bath out before you begin. The connections are likely to be inaccessible, old and corroded.
2. Start by trying to detach the waste trap using an adjustable wrench and, if necessary, penetrating oil.
3. Undo the back-nuts underneath the taps or mixer. These are likely to be more difficult to undo than the trap; use a crowsfoot wrench.
4. If the back-nuts won’t undo you may have to detach the supply pipes at another joint. Use an adjustable spanner to undo the nut.
5. Unscrew the old overflow pipe. Alternatively you can simply saw off both supply and overflow pipes — but you’ll need to install new ones.
6. When the bath is free, drag it out of position. You’ll need at least one other person to help you get a cast iron bath out unless you break it up first.
